Homemade Italian Sauce
Yes, it's very easy to open a jar of sauce, but it is so easy to make your own, and so much better, why bother? Now, right here I will say that I do add some sugar to my sauce, but that is to kill the acid so that I win the fight and don't spend the entire night regretting my love of Italian food! LOL
For years, I just stood over the stove and just sprinkled in the spices and seasonings that I wanted, and I never really knew how much of everything I added. One of my neighbors asked for the recipe, so I literally just sprinkled what I usually did into my hand and then measured it that way. So, a big thank you to Kayla! I can now actually share my recipe! Now, once you get the hang of it, you can alter the ingredients to suit your taste buds! It's that easy!
I am attempting to grow my own tomatoes this year, so hopefully I will be able to make my own completely from scratch this year! While they seem like they are doing well, I truly hope they get enough sun to get ripe all the way!
Whether you make this from cans or tomatoes, there is plenty of sauce, that you can easily freeze some for future use!
- (1) 28 oz can tomato puree
- (1) 28 oz can tomato sauce
- (1) 12 oz can tomato paste (plus fill the can twice with water)
- 1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 Tablespoon parsley
- 1 Tablespoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon basil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
