Heather Keeps Making Me a Better Person

Heather was one of the best people in my life and her absence screams at me. I just miss her. I don't know of another way to say that. Heather tried her best, for everyone, not just for those that she liked. We all need to be a little more like Heather was.

One of the things that Heather stated in her goodbye note was that she did not want to live in this world. I hear those same words repeatedly from many people. I agree with her. Now, I could moan and groan that the politicians and leaders of this world should do something about it. Well, when was the last time one of them really did a thing to help you or to help make this world a little better place. Yeah, never.

We need to be the change that we want to see. Today, say hi to someone, whether you know them or not, really look at that person in the eye and tell them to have a great day! Do you know someone struggling financially and don't have a lot to spare yourself? Make a little extra for dinner and share with them. Invi…

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

We would like to take this time to wish all of you the happiest of holidays. Enjoy your visits with your friends and family. I also want to remind you that there are also many that this is not a good time of year for. While you are all celebrating with your family and friends, we would also ask that you take some time to really talk to your friends and family.

While most people believe that more suicides happen during the holidays, the truth of the matter is, most suicides happen in either the Spring or the Fall. Many of those with thoughts of suicide, spend those holidays with pain ripping through their souls. They don't want to mar the holidays with death, they want their friends and family to have only good memories. They are trying to make sure that those they love don't deal with their deaths over the holidays.

What I would ask of all of you is simple. With every person you talk with and visit with, take the time to tell each and every person why they are so important in…

I Have the Best Girls in the World

They say that time heals all wounds. I guess so? I just find that time let's you teach yourself to deal with it. I remember so clearly each of my girls when they came into this world. So much of what happens, starting from pregnancy with each of them, changed me more.

Carol was my first born. I had a few miscarriages before her and one was really nasty. There was some scarring inside and eventually they told me to accept that I wouldn't have kids. I would probably never be able to carry full-term. Well, Carol showed me differently. She was beautiful the day she came into this world. About 4 hours after she joined us, she stopped breathing. They finally revived her, but that left a huge memory for me. She was such a gift and I almost never got to see the beautiful woman she grew up to be.

Amy was next. Amy came into this world full of love for everyone she met. She was the one I used to teach about "stranger danger" because she would run up to everyone for a hug. How…

Sharing Your Feelings Could Save a Life

All too often when we feel depressed, we try to hold it in. We don't want others to know that we feel less than perfect. We try to hide. That is exactly the complete opposite of what we should be doing! We need to open up. We need to share. 1 in 4 of us are effected by Mental Health in one way or another. We need to let others know that we feel the same way at times, but also be sure to tell them how you worked your way out of it.

We need to take Mental Health out of the closet and out into the open. Heather told us in a note that she thought others would think she was seeking attention, so she hid her problem. I could have easily told her that I had thought about taking my own life, but was so glad that I didn't. I may even have some bad days, but I know that I won't ever take that option. For me, the turning point was losing Heather to suicide. I know I could never cause the pain that her death has caused us. Before Heather, what kept me going was that I was sure my gir…
